Dear [fill in your State Senator and Representative],
Thanks to ConnectiCard, my hometown library card allows me to use the resources of any public library in Connecticut. But this popular and efficient program is seriously underfunded, and some libraries are finding it increasingly difficult to provide services to all patrons. We can't let this happen.
For, like many of your constituents, [include examples that reflect your personal experiences or select from these examples: I work in one community, but reside in another; I'm from a dual household family where children need library resources close to both homes; or I'm a new arrival in this country and will travel to a larger regional library for multi-lingual books and tapes].
The vital issue to remember is that I use the resources of more than one public library in Connecticut because I CAN. To provide for anything less is to restrict our nation's core values of free and equitable access to knowledge and information.
I am taking the time to write to you because I want to express my concern about the potential loss of ConnectiCard and to protect my right to borrow materials in person from any public library that may be most convenient for me to use.
The Connecticut Library Association has proposed a realistic and flexible budget plan that will ramp up the ConnectiCard budget over a period of a few years, until libraries are reasonably funded in their support of patrons outside their local community.
So I'm asking you to support the ConnectiCard funding plan and help protect my freedom to borrow materials directly from any public library in the State. If you have any questions, please call [your phone number].
Thank you,
